Retro Skype Phone

(11, 2012)

As a gift, I decided to make an old-fashioned telephone that would work with the popular VoIP service Skype. I purchased an old phone on eBay and replaced its internals with custom circuitry to interface with the computer. I kept the original bells and wired them to ring when a call is received, mimicking an old phone. The whole phone is self-contained and is powered by the computer’s USB port. This involved building a boost converter, interfacing the original equipment with a USB auto card, and writing a Skype interface in Python.
