ahondarse

ahondarse (2015) from Corey Hoard on Vimeo.

ahondarse (“to go deeper into oneself”) is, in part, about challenging what you know as true.

To this end, I attempt to evoke feelings of introspection and uncertainty. Building off of symbolically-important video clips, the distortion creates an otherworldly yet familiar form while the recursive nature of the piece ties into the theme of self-reflection. Simultaneously abstract and concrete, the viewer’s perception is meant to shift between recognizable and alien landscapes to create feelings of isolation, as if lost in space with only one’s thoughts.

The film is site-specific: the sound is tuned to resonate with the screening room at the NES artist residency in Skagaströnd, Iceland, creating a visceral, unsettling connection between the audio and the visuals while conveying the importance Iceland and my journey through it has had in the piece’s creation.

This film was created at the NES Artist Residency in Skagaströnd, Iceland during the Summer of 2015.

Featured in an exhibition at Proof Gallery in Boston, MA.
